The L&A test, conducted at the Canyon County Elections Office, thoroughly examined all aspects of the tabulation programming and confirmed the operational readiness of the election system equipment. The test rigorously assessed candidate positions, offices, and measures, including undervote, write-in, and overvote capabilities, as well as the reporting functions of the system.

Canyon County Clerk Rick Hogaboam emphasized the importance of testing the functionality and accuracy of the equipment, stating, “The public has a right to observe this test and is encouraged to attend.”

The Elections Office welcomed constituents to observe the test and took the opportunity to address questions and demonstrate additional accuracy and verification measures, ensuring transparency and confidence in the voting process.

As the May 21 primary election approaches, the Canyon County Elections Office would like to share some important reminders for voters:

Early, In-Person Voting until May 17: Two locations for early in-person voting are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until May 17—the Idaho Hispanic Community Center (315 Stampede Dr., Nampa) and Caldwell Elks Lodge (1015 N. Kimball Ave., Caldwell). Registration is possible during in-person early voting, and any qualified elector in Canyon County may vote at either location.

Election Workers Still Needed: The Canyon County Election Office continues to process interested parties wishing to assist as poll workers. Interested parties are encouraged to visit https://elections.canyoncounty.id.gov/become-a-poll-worker/. With some training classes scheduled for later this week, there is still plenty of time to get interested individuals signed up to help at the poll locations around the county.

Printed, Hand-Marked Ballot Option: Early voting locations and select election day locations will feature a new print-on-demand ballot option for voters who prefer to mark their choices by pen on a printed ballot.

Sample Ballots: Sample ballots are available at Sample-Ballot-Printable.pdf (id.gov). It is highly encouraged that prospective voters come prepared to vote, as ballot choices vary based on political affiliation and jurisdiction.

The Canyon County Elections Office remains committed to conducting fair, secure, and transparent elections encouraging all eligible voters to participate in the democratic process.

Canyon County Breaks Ground on New Elections Building https://test110.canyoncounty.id.gov/canyon-county-breaks-ground-on-new-elections-building/ Wed, 08 May 2024 18:09:07 +0000 https://www.canyoncounty.id.gov/?p=47767 CANYON COUNTY BREAKS GROUND ON NEW ELECTIONS BUILDING

CALDWELL, ID — The Board of Canyon County Commissioners marked a significant milestone today with the groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming Canyon County Elections Building, a $4.7 million project that was funded by federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

The ceremony, attended by key stakeholders and community members, heralded the commencement of construction on the 16,500-square-foot facility, slated for completion in late 2024 or early 2025.

The new elections building aims to address the pressing needs of the County’s burgeoning population and provide essential upgrades to the current Elections office.

Canyon County Clerk Rick Hogaboam emphasized the County’s status as the second largest in the state and one of the nation’s fastest-growing communities. He also highlighted the challenges with the current elections facility in accommodating vital functions like in-person training and early voting, which are two areas the new facility should accommodate.

“The right to vote is a constitutional bedrock,” Hogaboam asserted, underlining the pivotal role of secure elections in upholding democratic principles. He expressed gratitude to all those who supported the project, signaling a step forward in safeguarding the electoral process.

Rick Britton, Director of Facilities, underscored the collaborative effort behind the project, acknowledging the backing of Commissioners, the Clerk’s office, and the election staff.

Britton outlined the timeline for construction, anticipating groundbreaking next week and completion by late December or early January. The new facility boasts nearly quadruple the space of the current election’s office and is set to enhance services for voters and streamline election operations.

Commissioner Leslie Van Beek hailed the groundbreaking as a testament to the fruitful partnership between the County Commissioners, the Clerk’s office, and various stakeholders. Recognizing the contributions of individuals and organizations involved, Van Beek lauded the commitment to good governance and citizen welfare exemplified by the new building.

“This is a great day of celebration… It is also a reflection of the functional and collaborative partnership,” Commissioner Van Beek said. “This building embodies the essence of good government. Putting dollars to work for the benefit of the people.”

As the ceremony concluded, Hogaboam expressed gratitude to attendees, recognizing the efforts of the elections team and anticipating enhanced collaboration with other county departments in the new location.

The groundbreaking of the Canyon County Elections Building is a significant step in achieving a modern, efficient elections infrastructure, poised to serve the needs of its growing community.

45 Polling Locations Approved for May 21 Election, As Well As Two Early Voting Locations for Countywide In-Person Voting from May 6-17 https://test110.canyoncounty.id.gov/47105-2/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 22:33:03 +0000 https://www.canyoncounty.id.gov/?p=47105 The Canyon County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution on April 9 establishing 45 polling locations for the upcoming May 21 election, as proposed by Clerk Rick Hogaboam and the Election Office. In the prior primary election in 2022, there were 21 polling locations. In addition to the established locations for election day, the Canyon County Election Office has secured two locations for in-person, early voting. Early voting is available from May 6 to May 17, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at both the Hispanic Cultural Center (315 Stampede Dr., Nampa) and Caldwell Elks Lodge (1015 N. Kimball Ave., Caldwell). Any qualified elector in Canyon County may vote at either early voting location.

In addition to the options of in-person voting on election day or early in-person voting at one of the two locations, qualified electors may also request an absentee ballot online at voteidaho.gov. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is 5:00 p.m. on May 10. Absentee ballots must be returned to the Canyon County Elections Office no later than 8:00 p.m. on May 21.

Voter registration confirmation. Voters can check their voter registration status at voteidaho.gov. The public can still register to vote on election day with valid proof of identification and address verification, but keep in mind that only registered voters may request an absentee ballot. The preregistration deadline is April 26 to register to vote online.

Election worker information. The Canyon County Election Office is still processing interested parties wishing to assist as poll workers. While the office may fill the required slots with the existing applicant pool, interested parties are being added to an on-call list as potential reservists. Interested parties should visit https://voteidaho.gov/become-an-election-worker/.

Voter look-up tool. The Canyon County Election website, https://elections.canyoncounty.id.gov, has helpful resources and information, including a lookup tool to identify your particular precinct. It is being worked on to provide this updated voting location information, but you can identify your voting location by finding your precinct and referencing the attached list of voting locations for all precincts throughout the county. Sample ballots will also be added to the website shortly. Stay tuned for continued updates as election day draws nearer.

Clerk Hogaboam credits the collective efforts of the Election Office and community interest for securing all of these locations: “Kudos to our team and to fine folks of Canyon County for stepping up, big time. Securing 45 locations from partnering venues is one thing, but this isn’t possible without the additional interest of hundreds of members in our community willing to work on election day. The level of interest from prospective poll workers is extremely encouraging. This collective effort will help shorten average commutes, as well as relieve lines, over the alternative of combining more voters into fewer locations. Many thanks to the Caldwell Elks Lodge and Hispanic Cultural Center for their willingness to allow for two weeks of continuous use for early voting. We stand ready to serve with absentee requests, early voting, and on election day.”

Clarification on Upcoming Presidential Caucuses and May 21 Primary https://test110.canyoncounty.id.gov/clarification-on-upcoming-presidential-caucuses-and-may-21-primary/ Thu, 29 Feb 2024 22:07:21 +0000 https://www.canyoncounty.id.gov/?p=45886 24_02.29_006_press release_Clerk_CAUCUS PRIMARY CLARIFICATION

Information is courtesy of Canyon County Clerk, Rick Hogaboam:

There has been an increase in inquiries from Canyon County residents seeking information about the upcoming Idaho Republican Presidential Caucus on March 2 and the Primary Elections on May 21. In order to help educate and inform Canyon County residents, please note the following information:

The March 2 Idaho Republican Presidential Caucus is being administered by the Idaho Republican Party. It isn’t being administered by the election office. Information about the caucus and who qualifies to participate and what’s on the ballot can be found here: Home | Idaho Caucus (idahorepublicancaucus.com)

As for caucus locations in Canyon County, as administered by the Republican Party, the Idaho GOP has a resource here: Canyon County | Idaho Caucus (idahorepublicancaucus.com)

If you are unsure what precinct you reside in, you can use this tool: Search for My Voter Record (voteidaho.gov). This Voter Record tool will confirm if you are registered to vote, what affiliation, and also provide information on what precinct you reside in.

Please note that partisan legislative and countywide primary elections, along with other items, will be on the May 21 Primary Election. The Primary Election is administered by the county election office. To be clear, the Republican presidential candidates will not be on the May 21 Primary Election ballot. Additionally, the Idaho Democrat Party is planning on holding their Presidential Caucus on May 23 (2024 Presidential Nomination Caucus | Idaho Democratic Party (idahodems.org)). Please note that the Idaho Democrat Presidential caucus is being administered by the Idaho Democrat Party and subject to their rules and logistical arrangements.

Primary Election poll locations will differ in most cases from the caucus locations of both the Idaho GOP and Idaho Democrat presidential caucuses. Don’t assume that your normal poll location is the same location for the caucuses, nor assume that your caucus location will be the same poll location for the May 21 Primary Election. If you plan to participate in either the Republican or Democrat Caucus, it’s important you check the Idaho GOP or Idaho Democrat website to confirm logistics. As for poll locations for the May 21 Primary Election, we are finalizing logistics and will release information once it’s confirmed. We will also update the Canyon County voter lookup tool once locations are confirmed so that you can both find your primary poll location and a sample ballot for reference.
